Franklin Farmers Market is busy every Saturday but today there were even more vendors and lots of tomatoes for the annual Tomato Festival! There’s really something for everyone from veggies and herbs to local meat and dairy, artisan products, food trucks and kids activities. There are several food and drink selections if you want to pick up breakfast or lunch. My favorites include Ellie’s Old Fashioned Doughnuts, the breakfast burrito or grits bowl from the Califarmia truck and sweet tea from Lucy’s Kitchen. Lemonade and tea are available during the summer market and coffee is plentiful during the winter market.
I ran into a friend who was grocery shopping at Franklin Farmers Market. He was loaded down with bags of fruits and veggies in each hand! You can find a variety of seasonal fruit and vegetables at vendors like Kirkview Farm, Beaverdam Creek Farm and other local farms. Today there were lots of peaches, corn and tomatoes. Often I pick up sweet potatoes, cauliflower, okra and lima beans (when in season) at Farmers Market. Various plants, trees and live herb plants are displayed for purchase.
Local farms like Tavalin Tails Farm, Triple L Ranch and others provide meats including beef, pork, chicken, steaks, roast, lamb, bison and salmon. Hatcher Family Dairy offers milk and chocolate milk in addition to meat. Several farms have fresh eggs available each week.
Artisan products available for purchase at the market include wooden signs from Tom the Sign Guy, soaps and lavender laundry detergent from Alchemy of Sol and toxin free bug spray from Ecodiva. Graphic tee shirts, custom jewelry and metal art are just a few of the unique, creative products for sale at the market. Additional shops and restaurants are located inside The Factory at Franklin, just beside the Franklin Farmer’s Market.
Franklin Farmers Market celebrates the Strawberry Festival one Saturday in May, Tomato Festival in July and Watermelon Festival each August. The Pardoning of the Turkey happens every November and Santa visits during one December market. These special events and festivals really bring out the crowds!
Just a small sample of the vendors and products that participate in the Franklin Farmers Market are highlighted here. For more information about vendors, products, hours and events at Franklin Farmers Market visit the official Franklin Farmers Market website.
